WORLD LEAP DAY LITTER PICK
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR EXTRA DAY IN 2020?
As 2020 is a leap year lets use the extra day to give back to our communities and the planet. Join us in using Saturday 29 February 2020 to inspire your local community to get out and do a litter pick, beach clean or river clean.
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, anyone and everyone can take part.
Taking part is easy…
Choose a location. Maybe even invite family and friends to join you?
And if you want to organise a larger public event start sharing the event with your local community.
Get local media involved (TV, radio, newspaper) to help promote if you wish.
You could even use the event to collaborate with other local groups and coordinate your efforts.
Don’t forget to get land owners permission if required and consider any potential health and safety issues.
Register your event using the form below and we’ll help promote it across social media.
ON THE DAY
Get those gloves on, grab your litter pick stick and bags and get cracking!
It’s far easier to separate litter into recyclable and non-recyclable as you go.
Try to organise volunteers into pairs or small groups with each group having a bag for recyclables and another bag for non-recyclables.
If you think you may collect a large amount of litter liaise with your local council as they may be able to help dispose of any litter collected. They may even be able to provide litter picking gear for you to use.
Take lots of photos and share with @UKrubbishwalks on social media using the hashtag #LeapDayLitterPick.
Don’t forget to give a shout out to any local groups or businesses who support or take part.
With any luck your Leap Day Litter Pick efforts will encourage a whole new group of people to think about the amount of waste they produce and hopefully inspire them to continue picking up litter throughout the year.
Let’s see if we can get 30 Leap Day Litter Pick events organised around the world.
